Spectacles > Frames - in brief
Whatever you desire we can meet your requirement: be it a standard plastic frame or an exquisite rimless mount in 18carat gold we can supply.
The concept of spectacles has remained largely unchanged over the years and so today there are still just four basic types: the plastic frame, the metal frame, the half frame (supra) with the lenses held in place under tension from a nylon cord, and the rimless mount where the lenses adopt a structural function and the bridge and sides are securely fixed to them – traditionally using nuts and bolts but increasingly with a simple compression joint using a special plastic fixing into which the frame joint is ‘squeezed’.
Although the concept has remained largely unchanged, modern material and design have revolutionised the look, feel and weight of most frames.
